Cronos Labs is expanding its blockchain interoperability capabilities through its newly announced integration with LayerZero, a growing cross-blockchain interoperability protocol. The collaboration will enable smoother cross-chain transactions for Cronos EVM and Cronos zkEVM.
The integration, live on both mainnet and testnet, allows developers to build blockchain bridges, facilitate token transfers, and develop applications that connect Cronos users to a wide range of blockchain networks supported by LayerZero — including Ethereum, Solana, and other EVM-compatible ecosystems.
“Cross-chain interoperability has been a major priority of the Cronos project since its inception. Given the significant security and liquidity challenges associated with the fragmentation of the crypto industry, Cronos Labs is executing on that priority with caution and determination. In 2025, we expect much greater connectivity between crypto projects and traditional finance. The integration with LayerZero enables that.” — Ken Timsit, Managing Director of Cronos Labs
The achievement will allow hundreds of applications to use LayerZero to expand their services to Cronos users. The move is expected to improve interoperability for all Cronos users while unlocking access to billions of dollars in crypto assets, securely hosted on Cronos.
The integration improves cross-chain asset transfers between Cronos EVM, the Cosmos SDK ecosystem, and other EVM-compatible blockchains. Meanwhile, Cronos EVM will maintain its interoperability with the Cosmos SDK ecosystem through the Inter Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.
Cronos zkEVM, the first Elastic Chain (layer 2) to launch on mainnet within the ZKSync Era framework, will continue to benefit from native Ethereum bridging with over 10 other Elastic chains. The expansion will provide users with the ability to execute faster cross-blockchain transfers across a wide range of layer 1 and layer 2 networks.
“Cronos zkEVM is one of the first Elastic Chains LayerZero is expanding to, which is exciting, as the whole point of interoperability is to connect different types of chains. Excited to see what is built here!” — Bryan Pellegrino, CEO of LayerZero Labs
Currently, the LayerZero integration is primarily developer-focused, with further improvements planned for end-users in upcoming updates, such as the new CRO / zkCRO token bridge between Cronos EVM and Cronos zkEVM.
New cross-blockchain bridging options will be introduced as third-party links on official Cronos bridge portals available respectively at cronos.org/bridge for Cronos EVM and zkevmcronos.org/bridge for Cronos zkEVM.
Cronos Labs remains committed to supporting developers looking to leverage LayerZero’s technology for a range of innovative applications. These include the likes of cross-chain prediction markets, tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs), synthetic asset trading platforms, cross-chain lending protocols, and staking solutions.
